Sport New Zealand have created the transgender implementation working group to guide the three phase approach they developed to support the Guiding Principles for inclusion of transgender people in community sport. School Sport NZ is proud to be a contributing member of this working group and provide a voice for our transgender rangatahi. The working group have met online and in-person over the past few months to discuss how we can better understand our Rainbow communities and provide safe and inclusive sporting environments for them to participate. Part of these works has been exploring resources and research that can guide us in our decision making, as well as connecting with other organisations supporting Rainbow communities.
A great place to find a collection of relevant resources is on TKI – Te Kete Ipurangi (Ministry of Education Initiative). They have a section on Inclusive Education with guides to supporting LGBTIQA+ students and creatin inclusive policies and practices in New Zealand Secondary Schools.
