NCEA Examination period delayed by two weeks – Impact on sanctioned events

The Ministry of Education and the NZQA announced yesterday that the NCEA external examination period will be delayed by two weeks, starting Monday 22nd November to Tuesday 14th December.

The disruption caused from COVID over the last few weeks has seen thousands of students miss out on crucial curriculum window time. The delay allows schools and students more time to prepare for external examinations and submit internal course work.

In support of this Kaupapa, the board of School Sport NZ has resolved that no sanctioned events may continue to be delivered within the delayed examination window. The following events have been impacted as a result:

EVENT

DATE

VENUE

CONDOR 7s

Thu 2nd – Sun 5th Dec

Auckland

NZSS Athletics

Fri 3rd – Sun 5th Dec

Taranaki

Gillette Venus Cup Cricket

Wed 8th – Fri 10th Dec

Palmerston North

NZSS Touch Championships

Fri 10th – Sun 12th

Rotorua

We appreciate that this will be concerning for many students around the country given the disruption already seen through the cancellation of Winter Tournament Week. School Sport NZ is working collaboratively with its sport partners to assess rescheduling options and will provide updates as soon as possible.
