School Sport New Zealand (SSNZ) and University and Tertiary Sport New Zealand (UTSNZ) are delighted to announce the New Zealand Teachers’ Games (NZTG) will be returning to Mt Maunganui and Tauranga in 2022.   After a successful event in Dunedin last year, it’s the North Island’s turn again so start the kōrero now!  On offer, there will a combination of ‘have a go’, and social activities, as well as the traditional sports like netball and hockey.  There will be something for everyone!  We are looking forward to working with a variety of sport partners in the beautiful Bay of Plenty Region to make this event one to remember. 

The NZTG represent a great wellbeing opportunity for staff – a chance to enjoy each other’s company away from school, to recharge batteries, develop relationships and network with other teachers. The games also aim to Re-engage teachers in the joy and value of sport. 

Date: Sunday 2^nd October – Wednesday 5^th October – this is the first week of the school holidays.

Where:  Mount Maunganui and Tauranga – various venues

Who:  All teachers and support staff employed by the Ministry of Education. This includes early learning, primary and secondary.  SSNZ has partnered with UTSNZ to make the games available to those employed in the tertiary sector. 

The programme of events will be confirmed mid-May, with registrations opening in June.  To assist you with starting those conversations and recruiting at your school, we are pleased to confirm the following sports:

Hockey 5’s, Rip Rugby, Bowls, Womens and Mixed Netball, Waka-ama, Dragon Boating, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, 10 Pin Bowling, 3x3 Basketball & Squash.
