RIDE LEADER WORKSHOP FOR SCHOOLS

The Cycling New Zealand Ride Leader programme in partnership with Auckland Transport will run a free workshop for school cycling teams on Saturday 6 April in Auckland.

This workshop will help schools ensure they meet their H&S liability obligations with appropriately trained helpers, and training of students to national standards, to enable them to appropriately handle Auckland’s complex road environment.

The workshop involves the following:

1. Ride leader training for coaches, parents and teachers who take students cycling. This ensure all paid and volunteer adults who are taking students training know how to appropriately conduct a group ride, and if necessary further training will be available for parent volunteers.
2. National standard road safety cycle training (up to Grade 3) for all students who are going to participate in school cycling. This ensures all students understand how to ride on the road safely in complex road environments, before they start training for the sport of cycling.
3. Optional extra: for school coaches, parents and teachers to train as an NZQA Cycle Skills Instructor.

For those who are interested please register here.
