2022 SCHOOL SPORT NZ SANCTIONED CALENDAR OF EVENTS RELEASED

School Sport NZ are pleased to release the 2022 calendar of sanctioned national and island secondary school events to schools. In a year that has seen over 50% of the events being cancelled, it is with optimism that we look forward to 2022, with a road map in place that significantly increases the likelihood of school sport once again being a focal point on our schools. This release allows schools to include these sports events into their planning for 2022 and enables you to take advantage of early rates when booking travel and accommodation.
The 2022 School Sport NZ Event Calendar can be found on our website HERE

Please Note: All details are correct at the time of release but unforeseen changes may occur. Some NSOs are still confirming venues due to the disruption of this year’s calendar.  Any changes will be posted on the School Sport NZ website so please check regularly. Entry information and material as well as Health & Safety Plans for all events will also be posted on the School Sport NZ website so it is your first stop for all event information. We continue to work closely with our sport partners, Sport NZ and the Ministry of Education to ensure that all events comply with all health and safety regulations.

With almost 240 events available to schools and students in 2022, there will be no shortage of opportunities. The tiered approach to the 2022 calendar of events is an opportunity for NSOs to bring to life many of the principles of the Sport NZ Balance is Better strategy aimed at engaging more of our young people in sport and physical activity.

We are also excited that for the first time on the School Sport NZ calendar, NISS Equestrian Championships in Taupo & SISS Equestrian Championships in Christchurch and also the Te Ika A Maui - NISS RIP Rugby 7's Carnival in Tauranga.

Co-coordinating a calendar of this size to meet the needs of both schools and sport in terms of timing, eligibility, cost, venues and health and safety is a complex process and we wish to thank all NSOs and event organisers for taking part in the sanctioning process over the past few months.

Following what has been a very challenging year for school sport, along with our NSO partners, we look forward to being able to deliver a full programme of exciting opportunities to schools and students in 2022 and students pulling on a school jersey and having fun with their friends.

NORTH ISLAND SECONDARY SCHOOL SPORT CONFERENCE CANCELLED

It is with regret that we are announcing the cancellation of the North Island Secondary School Sport Conference scheduled for 5th – 7th December in Rotorua.

The uncertainty of no fixed date to move to the traffic light system, the current gathering limits that impact greatly on the quality of the conference we could offer, and the rise in number and regions of confirmed COVID 19 cases, have been central to the decision-making process.   For those who had registered, School Sport New Zealand will be in touch asap regarding the processing for registration refunds. Accommodation at the Millennium Hotel, will automatically be cancelled but if deposits were paid please contact Kimberley Daniels at kimberley.daniels@millenniumhotels.com to organise a refund.

Sport NZ and School Sport NZ are working together to look at delivery opportunities for the Secondary School Sport Conference 2022 and will provide an update as soon as possible.  We are working with RSDs to investigate local professional development opportunities in the meantime and they will be in touch to identify needs in the near future.
